He rose to prominence in Rome, pursuing a career in the courts and political life, for which he had been trained, while also acquiring celebrity as an author of tragedies and essays. Serving as the tutor and later adviser to the Emperor Nero, Seneca was trained in rhetoric and philosophy. His death was ordered by Emperor Nero to commit suicide by severing the veins of his body and slowly bleeding out. This resulted in a painful demise.

Instrumental in guiding the Roman Empire under emperor Nero, Seneca influenced him from a young age with his Stoic principles.
